All About Us

We started Northern Vermont Field Hockey Club in 2019 with our inaugural MVP (Motivation, Visualization and Physical) Field Hockey Camp at Jay Peak. We love the sport and see the need for a club in Northern Vermont; who better to start it than local players with the love to play and share knowledge? NVTFHC is a place for all ages, all skill levels, and all types of competition - a true gem among the Green Mountains that will only continue to shine as we continue to grow.

Our Head Coach, Mel Hurlbut, has been playing since 1997. She grew up in England and competed in many countries before her four year Division 1 career at the University of Massachusetts (UMass), Amherst. During her time at UMass the team won three A10 titles and achieved Elite 8 her senior year. Mel still plays in adult leagues today; she has Coached youth ages 5-18 at varying levels and has umpired since 2013, including college level. Mel brings a breadth of knowledge, skill, and understanding of the game of Field Hockey that is a rarity in the coaching world. Her experience and leadership are the foundations on which NVTFHC is built.

Our Goalie Coach, Brooke Hoyt, has been playing field hockey since middle school. Brooke grew up in a small town in Northern New Hampshire and worked her way into a spot at the University of Vermont, where she played at the Division 1 level for four years. After graduating in 2011, Brooke has continued working with players of all ages in Vermont and New Hampshire, many of whom have gone on to play at the collegiate level themselves. As a goalkeeper, Brooke adds a unique perspective to our coaching team, not only through her work with club members and campers, but through her own specialized goalie clinics offered throughout the year.  Brooke knows what it's like to grow up in a rural community with limited resources, and is passionate about creating opportunities for those in similar situations to advance their playing careers.
